Alessandra Klück & John Kaphingst Art Exhibit

Please join us for an art exhibit featuring

Alessandra Klück and John Kaphingst.

Alessandra Klück

It is not only the buzzing sound of music or the silk screened color on paper that has found its place in the city of Milwaukee, a region long venerated for its eclectic art and style. From the visual attraction of the Midwest landscape to strong sense of community, the outcome is a harvest of efforts, artists: in and around the city of Milwaukee that make a difference and who call this place home. She has photographed these subjects within their carefully sculpted living spaces, whether that be their home, artist studio or work space, in the hopes to express a deeper connection, not only of that environment which inspires each of these artists, but where the inspiration and imagination converge. She calls this the "Daydream Series."

Alessandra Klück is a graduate of the Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design with a BFA in printmaking. She has lived and worked in and around the city of Milwaukee for many years. Her work has covered an array of media: printmaking methods–linoleum, intaglio, silkscreen, lithography and wood cuts, as well as mixed media, ceramics and photographs. On display will be a mixed media piece and a photo project that has spanned three years, entitled, "Daydream" as a slide show, as well as specific pieces from that series. www.alessandrakluck.com

John Kaphingst

Photographer John Kaphingst shares images that span from Milwaukee to Beijing, exploring the beauty and complexity of moments most often overlooked. John's ability to find inspiration in urban settings–subways, alleys and city streets, makes for a gritty and intricate visual experience.

kelsey Lake (Left Panel) Finished!

25.5 x 34

I finished this one yesterday. I think this is probably the favorite of all three. Here is an animation of it.

kelsey Lake (Right Panel) Finished!

25.5 x 34

Hallelujah! One down, two to go. I wish my camera could accurately capture the color. It seems a little yellow and washed out on the screen. Gotta see it in person...

Kelsey Lake (Left Panel - Work in Progress)

I'm pretty happy with how this one is turning out. Just have to do a few more additions to it: Reed reflections and a few sunlight sparkles. I'll be so happy when these are done. Spending the next 3 to 4 days in my studio.

Kelsey Lake Triptych (Work in Progress)

Here's a view of all three panels together. This painting should be done by the end of this month. If you click on the image you can see a larger view.

White Orchid

6 x 15
oil on panel
$300

This was a pretty tough painting to finish, and I fought it tooth and nail. I also consider it the yin to the "Red Orchid" yang painting (see Jan. 23, 2010). My "Orchid" paintings are sort of bookends marking a significant chapter in my life. Whew! Glad that's over with!

Kelsey Lake (Left panel - work in progress)

25.5 x 34
oil on panel

This one is starting to come together. I had to work through what I call the "ugly stage" – that point in the painting where everything needs work... and it just looks bad.

I also realized today that my studio is my church and painting is my religion... and lily pads are what I worship. I literally catch myself praying/meditating while I'm here.
